The Holy Heart of Christ

Printed on Hahnemühle German Etching paper for pitch dark blacks and heavy textures. The Holy Heart of Christ is partially inspired in Francis Bacon’s Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion. At the same time it relates to my experience of a statue in the Costa Rican Central Market back in the 80s where my father took me for shopping.

I relate this image to the notion of pain and pleasure, to the relationship between religious notions of purity and its opposite in lust and enjoyment, paid in suffering.

White Pineapple

Printed on Hahnemühle Metallic paper for bright colours and shiny surfaces.

This series started as I found a pineapple from Costa Rica, my home country while shopping in Wembley. It prompted a series of thoughts related to migration, commerce and my own movement across the world. The white square represents a certain privilege trade has over people in their capacity to travel across borders.

To obtain a very large resolution, this image was created by mixing several images into a larger one. This also helps the notion of a complex subject being composed of many elements.

Pink Balloon Fetish

Printed on Hahnemühle Metallic paper for bright colours and shiny surfaces.

This series uses the author’s body to present a complex relationship between subject and object. The author presents their own body as a fetish object, converted into sculptures from fabric and perspex prints.

The Liquid Body

This work was composed using a mixture of long exposure and flash to create motion and stillness. The 4 digital images were sitched horizontally to create the feeling of movement. The Liquid Body presents 4 subjects morphing into each other in a sequence of sexually suggestive poses, blurring lines between identity, practices and individuality.

This work is the winner of the 2019 ExpoFoto Central America and Caribbean Fine Art Award.
