Cyborg Reptile

Cyborg Reptile was executed as part of the Karstiga art residency in Spain. The research was centred around the territories as productive spaces for identities. Through installing tropical tropes and imagining hybrid landscapes, Cyborg Reptil challenges essentialisms of identity and nationality.

This series of works uses elements from Cañada del Hoyo to construct new landscapes and “beings”. These reconstructions play on the notion of identity attached to territory by shifting the territory and its function.

The series produced landscape interventions in the form of video art, augmented reality pieces and photographic work.

Tropicalization of an

arid landsacape

The intervention of this landscape using a plastic tropical trope, plastic palm trees, to later photograph and reprint it, comments on tropicality as a representational project of extraction. Tropicality as representation emerges from discourse and not from the appearance of the landscape, contextualized by productive activities and crossed by patriarchy and post-colonialism.

Cyborg reptile

Cyborg Reptile establishes a dialogue between the artist's body and the territory. The intervention in the artist's body, with make-up, produced, engraved, and reinserted as a projection, manifests an artificiality inherent to human activity while appealing to the most reptilian of behaviour, in a coming and going between the cultural and the material. , without essence beyond the performative.
